Open Playground Sessions during August 2026

This summer, we were delighted to welcome families back to our Open Playground sessions, creating opportunities for children of all abilities to play, explore and have fun together in a safe and supportive environment. Over six sessions during the August school holidays, we welcomed 175 registered children and family members, resulting in 242 visits to the playground.

From climbing and exploring to making new friends and reconnecting with familiar faces, the playground was full of activity, laughter and shared experiences. Many families returned several times throughout the holidays, highlighting how valuable these sessions are to the community.

What families told us was just as important as the numbers. Parents and carers consistently spoke about how welcoming, inclusive and relaxed the environment feels. For many, Open Playground provides something that's difficult to find elsewhere: a space where children can simply be themselves without barriers or judgement.

Families shared how much they appreciate having somewhere safe for their children to play, make friends and build confidence. Others told us that the sessions help reduce the stress and isolation that can sometimes be experienced during school holidays, while providing opportunities to connect with other families who understand their experiences.

We also received 18 pieces of feedback and raised £202.01 in voluntary donations, helping us continue providing inclusive opportunities for local families.

The success of this year's programme shows just how important accessible play opportunities are. We are incredibly grateful to every family who attended, donated, volunteered or supported the sessions. Together, we're creating a community where every child can play, belong and thrive.

Thank you for being part of Open Playground 2026.
